How did 'Country Roads' become a Blues home-game staple? By accident.

The John Denver country hit from 1971 is now a new Blues hit in 2019. Here's how it happened.

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — If you’ve been to a Blues game at any point this spring you’ve heard it playing at some point in the third period. Thousands of fans singing John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” 

In unison. Always in the third period. As if it’s been a long-standing St. Louis hockey tradition. 

Well, it hasn’t been. 

In fact, the song is a new staple at Blues games. 

So how in the world did a 48-year-old country song become a Blues fan-favorite rivaling “Gloria?” 

Jason Pippi, the Blues director of entertainment, met up with 5 On Your Side Sports' Josh Helmuth to explain.
