Thursday, January 18, 1973 Foreign Stars Direct BYU Over Niagara, 93-83 By United Press International The two stars of the Brigham Young basketball team are Kresimir Cosic of Yugoslavia and Kaievi Sarkalahti of Finland, and without them the Cougars would certainly be hard-pressed to come up with a winning season. Take Wednesday night for example. Cosic, a 6-foot-ll senior, scored 15 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, blocked seven shots and had a school record 12 assists as the Cougars whipped Niagara, Sarkalahti also played a big part in the victory with 25 points. The Cougars trailed, 44-40, at halftime but came out smoking in the second half and ran Niagara out of the gym Bill Anderson was the offensive sparkplug in the second half with 15 points, most of them coming off passes from Cosic.

Boyd Batts Blazers Host Lakeland At Jasper Friday The Vincennes University Trailhlazers, defending national champions of Junior College Basketball, will play host to Lakeland Community College of Ohio Friday night in a regular season game at the Jasper High School gym. The game is being played at Jasper in association with the Vincennes University Jasper Center and the J-Club of Jasper High school.

The Trailblazers of Coach Allen Bradfield have won the national title three times and for the last eight years have been the top junior college cage team in the nation. TTiey are 14-2 for the year and are presently ranked number two in the nation according to the United Press International ratings. A year ago the Blazers compiled a 33-0 record en route to the title. Vincennes will play host to Southwestern Michigan tonight at Beless Gym at Vincennes. The game will be televised live on WVUT-TV.

Channel 22 (Channel 13 on the cable in Jasper and Huhtingburg). Last Saturday the Trailblazers defeated Robert Morris of Pennsylvania, 76-61, in a key game at Pittsburgh. Another Blazer starter is Boyd Batts, a talented 6-8 freshman from Thomridge High School in Dolton, 111. Batts, a high school teammate of celebrated Quinn Buckner, has been averaging 14.4 per game. Rounding out the starting five for V.U. are Hardd Miles, a 6-3 senior from Evansville North (13.8) and Dave Edmonds, a 6-3 senior from Bryant High School in New York City 'ium I Eartha Faust (10.4). Top reserves for the Blazers are Mike Darrett, a 6-3 senior from Evansville Bosse and big Mel Hughlette, a 6-8 freshman from Central High School in Carbondale, HI.

The loss was the 12th of the season against two wins for the Millers. For Winslow it was win No. 12 in 13 outings. The Eskimos have lost only to Vincennes Rivet (67-64).

'Hianks to an 18 point second quarter, the Millers, playing without the services erf freshman Dave Barrett, managed to stay within striking range during the first half. TTiey trailed by 13-8 at the first stop and by 36-26 at halftime. But the visitors went to work in the third quarter outscoring Otwell and pulled out of sight. Barrett, leading scorer with an average just under 10 points a game, was out of action with the flu. Elliott stole the show Wednesday night.

The 6-6 senior tossed in 41 points to lead the Eskies to victory. His total included 18 field goals, the total number of field goals scored by the entire Otwell team. The 6-2 senior scored 21 points on six field goals and nine free throws and pulled down 13 rebounds in a losing cause.
