Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Canucks announced Head Coach Travis Green's coaching staff today, naming Newell Brown, Nolan Baumgartner, Doug Jarvis and Manny Malhotra assistant coaches, Dan Cloutier goaltending coach, Glenn Carnegie skill coach, and Ben Cooper video coach.

"We are excited to add Newell and Nolan as assistant coaches for the upcoming season and to welcome them and their families back to Vancouver," said Head Coach Travis Green. "They both possess a familiarity with our staff and we are confident they will be a great fit and complement our returning coaches."
"We are also pleased to announce expanded roles and responsibilities for both Glenn and Manny," continued Green. "We feel fortunate to have this group assembled, that also includes Doug, Dan and Ben, as they each play an integral part in further developing our young team."
Brown and Baumgartner will join Green on the bench, taking the lead with the forwards and defencemen, respectively. Doug Jarvis will continue to be an integral member of the staff as an assistant coach and Manny Malhotra will assume additional responsibilities in his new role as an assistant coach. On the special teams front, Brown will oversee the power play and Baumgartner will oversee the penalty kill. Glenn Carnegie will move in to an expanded role, developing prospects in the system. Dan Cloutier and Ben Cooper will continue in similar capacities for the 2017.18 season.
Brown, 55, joins the Canucks for his second stint as assistant coach after serving in the same capacity from 2010-2013 where he helped the team to consecutive President's Trophies in 2010.11 and 2011.12 in addition to an appearance in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. He spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach with the Arizona Coyotes. Brown has also held the roles of associate coach and assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks dating back to the 1996.97 season.
Before joining the NHL ranks, Brown spent four seasons as Head Coach of the Adirondack Red Wings, where he recorded a 151-132-36-2 record and four consecutive postseason appearances. He also served as Head Coach of Michigan Tech University from 1990-1992 after serving as an Assistant Coach at Michigan State from 1986-1990.
A native of Cornwall, Ontario, Brown was drafted by Vancouver 158th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, spending one year in the Canucks organization playing for Fredericton (AHL) and Muskegon (IHL). Prior to his professional playing career, Brown played four seasons for Michigan State from 1980-1984 and was a member of the Memorial Cup championship Cornwall Royals in 1979.
Baumgartner, 40, joins the Canucks from the Utica Comets where he, alongside Canucks Head Coach Travis Green, helped lead the team to a 35-32-9 record over the past four seasons including a 47-20-9 record and Calder Cup Final berth in 2015. He began his coaching career in 2012.13 as an Assistant Coach with the Chicago Wolves.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Baumgartner completed a 17-year professional playing career that included 143 career regular season NHL games (7-40-47 and 69 penalty minutes) split between Washington, Chicago, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Dallas. He also played 878 regular season AHL games recording 390 points (83-307-390) and 815 penalty minutes as well as 86 career Calder Cup playoff games which included an appearance in the 2009 Calder Cup Final as a member of the Manitoba Moose.
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Baumgartner was originally selected 10th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He was a member of the Memorial Cup championship Kamloops Blazers in 1994 and 1995.
