Scratch that “late summer opening.”
Triple Five on Monday announced the opening of American Dream will happen in the fall of this year.
This latest update on the often-stalled project comes after an announcement in March that American Dream wouldn’t open this spring, as planned.
And now, after its fall opening, the developer is saying that some retailers at the mega-mall in the Meadowlands won’t open until the 2019 holiday season or early 2020.
But Triple Five is not saying what will open when. A spokeswoman for the developer would not say what month of the fall the initial opening will occur, how much of the 3-million square foot development will open at that time and what elements would open later.
But, Monday’s announcement did include some new information about photo-friendly attractions that are planned to open inside the mega-mall, at some point. They include:
- American Dream will have six unique, grand atriums flooded with natural light. One will have a sprawling garden with bird-filled aviaries and bunny rabbit fields.
- Instagram moments are everywhere, according to the developer.
- More than 75,000 LED lights and 25,000 leaves will make up “Albero dei Sogni,” a unique tree-like sculpture that will perform to music several times a day.
- A 60-foot fashion fountain that can be turned into a catwalk in a matter of seconds.
- A 60-foot atrium will be an entertainment hub for live events and social gatherings.
- Art from local emerging and world-class renowned artists.
Even though American Dream is expansive, its designed so that no two points of interest are more than a few minutes walk apart, the developer said Monday. Its spaces are also flexible, and will keep rotating with new installations and activities.
The developer also slipped some new retail tenants into its announcement, including Tiffany & Co., Watches of Switzerland, Dolce &Gabbana, Moncler and Fourpost. They will join previously announced stores: Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York and the world’s three largest retailers -- Zara, H&M and Uniqlo, according to Triple Five.
American Dream will be 45 percent retail and 55 percent entertainment.
The entertainment options will include Big SNOW, the first indoor snow park in North America, a DreamWorks Water Park, Nickelodeon Universe theme park, an NHL-sized ice skating rink, performing arts theater, KidZania, a luxury movie theater, 300-foot observation wheel, Sea Life Aquarium, Legoland Discovery Center, Climbzone, Mirror Maze and two 18-hole miniature golf courses.
