LONDON, July 10 (AP) — Joe Davis, world snooker champion for 19 years be ginning in 1927, died today in a convalescent home. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Davis retired unbeaten from snook er championship play in 1946. He won his first world title in 1927. The following year he repeated the feat, and also won the world billiards title after having been runner‐up for two years.

Queen Elizabeth II made him an officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1963.

He is survived by his widow, June Mato, a former singer.
