Facebook Adds Ability to 'Like' Comments

Facebook has thus far ignored multiple requests for a "dislike" button, but the site is adding the ability to "like" a specific person's comment.

The "like" feature and the ability to comment on news feed items are "two of the most heavily used features on the site and have proven to be a simple way to discuss posts and show appreciation for the content friends share on Facebook," the company said in a blog post. "So like peanut butter and jelly, we realized these two features would go better together."

Starting today, Facebook is adding a "like" button underneath comments. If you post a photo and a friend makes a witty comment about it, for example, you can "like" that comment. Or if you're having a spirited debate about a status update, you can "like" a particular comment in the thread.

"Similar to liking other content, when you click 'like' on a comment the commenter will receive a notification," Facebook said. "Other people who can see the comment based on its privacy setting also will be able to see who has liked the comment."
