Cha Tae-hyun and Bae Doo-na confirmed to star in K-drama series, ‘The Greatest Divorce’

Cha Tae-hyun and Bae Doo-na will star in K-drama series ‘The Greatest Divorce’.

Cha Tae-hyun and Bae Doo-na will appear on TV this October in a new drama series titled The Greatest Divorce, according to Blossom Entertainment, the agency which represents Cha. The cast also includes Lee El and Son Sukku as the main leads.

The drama is a remake of the popular Japanese series, The Best Divorce, which explores romance as a series of comic ups and downs, with divorce as the main theme.

The Korean remake aims to answer the question: Is marriage the fulfilment of love?

Cha and Bae portray a married couple who struggle to answer this question, with a generous helping of comic relief thrown in for good measure.

Cha takes on the role of Cho Suk-moo, a stubborn man who enjoys spending time alone. It will be a departure from his usual roles portraying endearing, well-meaning yet bumbling characters. Just think about his greatest hits: My Sassy Girl (2001), Windstruck (2004), The Grand Heist (2012) and Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017).

Bae plays Kang Hwee-roo, a clumsy but lovable woman who prefers to take things at a slower pace. This is her return to the Korean small screen. Her latest project, Sense8 Series Finale, is airing on Netflix.

This is the second time Bae and Son have worked together. They are known for sharing the screen on season two of Sense8, an original sci-fi drama series by Netflix. In The Greatest Divorce, Son plays Lee Jang-hyun, a charismatic man who is loved by the ladies.

Lee is best known for her role as the mysterious Grandmother Samshin in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, which is also known as Goblin. Lee will play Jin Yoo-young, Cho’s first love. She plays an introverted person who is not afraid to stand up for herself.

The Greatest Divorce is expected to air on KBS 2 from October.
