DOHA: India-2 (Pankaj Advani / Manan Chandra) secured a berth in the semi-finals of the World Snooker Team Cup 2018 when they beat Ireland (1 Michael Judge / Brendan O’Donoghue) in yesterday’s quarter-final clash in Doha.
India 2 will now meet Iran in semis.
Earlier yesterday, a high-quality Last-16 stage knockout match between the Indian duo and China (Zhang Jiankang / Fan Zhengyi) ended 3-2 in favour of India-2. The entire match saw breaks and counter breaks, safety and recoveries and ofcourse the great potting skills.
In first frame, Manan Chandra’s started with a break of 52, which was brilliantly countered by Chines boy Zhang Jiankang by accumulating 46 points break to come back into the game and win it. In second frame, Pankaj Advani scored 66 points break to level the match. After that they both maintained the same momentum in doubles too to take 2-1 lead. Though in next frame, Fan responded with a break of 51 against Manan to force Indians into the deciding frame.
The last frame was between Pankaj Advani and Fan Zhengyi where Fan miscued on first black leaving chance for Pankaj, which he used well to score two worthy breaks of 23 and 47 to take 69 points lead. Advani had completely tightened the string. After that having aid of few safeties, he ended the frame 91-01 to secure match win.
Their Irishmen ousted South African pair Peter Francisco and Mohammad Faaris Kahn 3-0 to book their place in today’s semi-final.
