Rohit Sharma may have failed to live up to the promise in the red-ball cricket but the right-handed batsman has emerged out to be an unstoppable force in limited-overs cricket, on both batting and captaincy aspect. Apart from leading the team from the front, he has also let his bat talk and has impressed everyone with his form. In the second T20I of the series against West Indies, Rohit leapfrogged Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer for India in the shortest format of the game and he will eye the record of the highest run-scorer in T20I when India and West Indies will lock horns in the 3rd T20I on Sunday in Chennai.

Ahead of the match, legendary Sunil Gavaskar was in all praise for Rohit. In his column for The Times of India, he compared Rohit to Virender Sehwag and also said that he can be a destructive batsman like Sehwag and Viv Richards.

“The standout performer in both the limited overs series and the T20 series has been Rohit Sharma. Like Virender Sehwag before him, he is unstoppable once he gets going and like Viru he has an appetite for big hundreds. When Viru used to get out looking to hit another delivery out of the park, there used to be consternation around the ground, just like it is when Rohit gets out to a seemingly casual shot,” Gavaskar wrote.

“If Rohit can turn his white ball exploits into red ball cricket, he will be the most destructive batsman in the world after Viv Richards and Virender Sehwag,” he added.

Rohit has scored 1030 runs in ODIs this year at 73.57 while in T20I format, he has 556 runs in his account, highest for India. Apart from that, he also led India to victories in Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup 2018, in absence of Virat Kohli. Team India has already won the ongoing T20I series against West Indies as well with one match still be played.
