MILWAUKEE — The three-day German Fest is joining the growing list of Milwaukee festivals to cancel this summer, due to COVID-19 concerns.

Wisconsin's largest German heritage festival is canceling its event originally scheduled for July 30-Aug. 1 at Henry Maier Festival Park.

“It was not an easy decision to cancel for the second year in a row. Our Board of Directors took many scenarios into consideration,” said Eric Radue, Festival President, in a statement. “We deliberated for many months. Taking all factors into account, the decision to cancel was the best option to allow the vaccine distribution to take place and ensure the safety of our attendees and our many dedicated Volunteers at German Fest.”

German Fest started 40 years ago, and celebrates the culture, music and heritage German immigrants brought over when they moved to the U.S. More than 80,000 people typically attend German Fest each year, according to organizers.

Milwaukee Pridefest was also canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic thi summer. That festival was supposed to take place from June 3 through June 6 at the Henry W. Maier Festival Grounds.
