GUCCI FASHIONABLE IN PRISON

By WILLIAM C. TROTT, United Press International

Fashion designer Aldo Gucci, 81, is serving the rest of his one-year sentence for income tax evasion at a Salvation Army halfway house in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Gucci, who owns homes in Palm Beach, New York, Beverly Hills, Calif., London and Rome, served five months at Eglin Federal Prison Camp, where a fellow prisoner says he was a tailor and so popular that inmates nicknamed him Bubba. 'Anybody who was a good guy we'd call Bubba,' said Robert Bauer. 'And Gucci was a good guy. For all his money, he was down-to-earth.' Gucci pleaded guilty in January 1986 to evading taxes on $11.8 million of income.
