American photographer Dayna Smith (Minot, North Dakota, 1962) earned a degree in communications from Kent State University, Ohio. Before coming to The Washington Post in 1985 as a staff photographer, she worked at the Palm Beach Post in Florida and the Washington Times. In 2007, after working for 21 years as a photographer, assignment editor and picture editor at the Washington Post, she became a freelancer and has been working for the paper and for other clients ever since. During her 30-year career, Dayna Smith travelled around the word to cover international conflicts and crises.
