Peacock and Rosenoir scored City's goals

Carlisle old boy Lee Peacock came back to haunt his former club as Bristol City claimed the LDV Vans Trophy.

Striker Peacock played for Carlisle in the late 1990s, but he showed his old team no mercy when he prodded the ball home after Matt Glennon was unable to hold Liam Rosenior's shot.

With Carlisle tiring, Rosenior added a second when he stooped to knock home a Scott Murray cross.

The Second Division side had dominated the first half, but as Carlisle came back into the game City manager Danny Wilson's decision to introduce Rosenoir just after the hour proved the game's turning point.

The youngster's pace and skill immediately began to unsettle Carlisle and his movement and deft chest control in the build-up to Peacock's goal was one of the final's outstanding moments.

Carlisle were never outclassed - the tireless work ethic of Roddy Collins' side and the performance of the goalkeeper Glennon made sure of that.

He produced the save of the first half when he dived at the feet of Christian Roberts.

The Bristol City striker had made an intelligent run to collect Louis Carey's pass, but Glennon rushed out to narrow the angle and block Roberts' shot.

Late in the first period Darren Kelly provided crucial protection for Glennon when he blocked Lee Peacock's low shot, who had been released by a Murray pass.

Soon after the restart, Raven had to clear his lines quickly after Glennon dropped the ball after coming for a cross.

Carlisle worked impressively to disrupt City's passing game and Jon McCarthy typified their defensive diligence when he tracked back to head away Murray's cross before Roberts could get to the ball.

Having frustrated the Second Division side, McCarthy in tandem with the impressive Stuart Green began to orchestrate a more offensive strategy from Carlisle.

On 55 minutes McCarthy's cross picked out Richie Foran, but the Carlisle striker headed over the bar.

City and Carlisle were separated by 41 Football League places

Soon after Foran nodded back Adam Rundle's superb cross from the left, but Craig Farrell was unable to get any power on his shot.

With the game swinging towards Carlisle, Wilson introduced Rosenior for Roberts, a substitution that changed the shape of the game.

The youngster's shot led to Peacock's goal and Rosenior was in the right place at the right time to double City's advantage.

In winning, City became the first southern club to lift the LDV Vans Trophy in eight years.
