“I’m F*cking Matt Damon” from “Jimmy Kimmel Live” won for outstanding original music and lyrics at Saturday’s ceremony for the 2008 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, rewarding a Sarah Silverman bit that became a huge viral hit.
The Emmy went to the composing/writing team of Silverman, Tony Baubirei, Wayne McClaucey, Sal Lacono and Dan Warner.
“Oh my gosh, this makes a year of [catcall voice] ‘I’m f*cking Matt Damon, too!’ totally worth it,” Silverman said. “Matt Damon, I’m going to be honest, had very little to do with this being popular. And the person for who this video was made, Jimmy Kimmel, who broke my heart, oops … who… will always have a place in my heart.”
“Pirate Master” won the category of outstanding original main title theme music, with the Emmy going to composer Russ Landau (it was his third nomination, and first win). “Pushing Daisies” won outstanding music composition for a series (original dramatic score) for Jim Dooley; it was his first nomination.
Composer Jeff Beal won for outstanding music composition for a miniseries, movie or a special (original dramatic score) for “The Company”; it was his eighth nomination and third Emmy win, having previously won Emmys for his work on “Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King” and “Monk.”
The Emmy for outstanding music direction went to music directors Steve Jordan and Mark Watters for “Movies Rock.” “I want to thank Conde Nast for spending an obscene amount of money on this,” Watters said.
In addition, “American Idol” won — in a tie with “Jimmy Kimmel Live” — for outstanding picture editing or clip packages for talk, performance, award or a reality-competition program for editor Bill DeRonde. HBO’s “Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/Love Show” won for outstanding picture editing for a special (single or multi-camera) for editors Michael D. Schultz, Jim Kelly and Chad Callner.
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Chalke, the 2008 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles; they will air on E! Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. The Primetime Emmy Awards for acting categories and best comedy and drama series will be handed out Sept. 21; that show will air on ABC at 8 p.m.
