Jimmy Kimmel and his mean tweets aren’t going away anytime soon.
The comedian and ABC agreed to a new contract on Tuesday that will keep him as host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the next three seasons.
Kimmel, who is in his 17th season, is one of the longest-tenured hosts in late night TV. The new contract will take him through his 20th season.
He’s become one of the most notable names in late night over the last few years because of his punchlines as well as his activism.
Kimmel’s emotional monologues about health care and gun violence often go viral the next day. The official YouTube page for “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has 14 million subscribers.
He’s also hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Oscars for ABC.
The host joins other in late night who have signed contracts through the 2020 election.
NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are both under contract through 2021 and Trevor Noah, the host of “The Daily Show,” will be on Comedy Central through 2022.
Kimmel told CNN Business in October that late night comedy has changed in the last few years.
“The news of the day, every day, is about Donald Trump,” Kimmel said. “I always look at my job as someone who comments on the news of the day. You go to dinner and it’s all people talk about. It used to be everyone talked about Netflix all the time. That’s been replaced by Donald Trump.”
