Jimmy Kimmel is calling on his celebrity friends for a little help.
Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Shaquille O’Neal and Dave Grohl are stepping in as guest hosts for the ABC late-night star this week while he prepares for his infant son’s second heart surgery. The procedure was originally set to happen this week but was delayed.
“As a precautionary measure, the scheduled second heart surgery for Jimmy Kimmel’s son Billy had to be postponed this week due to the common cold,” a show rep said Monday. “Jimmy is very grateful to Shaquille O’Neal, Dave Grohl, Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence for filling his very small shoes as guest host this week while he, his wife and children sneeze on each other.”
Starting Monday, O’Neal will man the Jimmy Kimmel Live! desk with guests Mila Kunis and Aisha Tyler and music from Dolla $ ft. YG. On Tuesday, Grohl will follow with guests Kristen Bell and Alice Cooper, who will also perform. Tatum will host on Wednesday, welcoming Ellen DeGeneres and musical guest P!nk. And Lawrence will take her turn on Thursday, with guest Kim Kardashian and musical performers Linkin Bridge.
In May, 10 days after Kimmel’s wife Molly McNearney gave birth to their son, the late-night host delivered a tearful monologue in which he disclosed that Billy had a rare heart defect. The emotional 13-minute speech went viral and drew attention to the country’s health care debate. Three months later, Kimmel offered an update on his son to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Billy was “doing great” but still have two more open heart surgeries.
