30 arrested in Mandalay for pot-banging movement in protest against military coup

Thirty people in Mandalay Region have been arrested for banging on pots and other kitchenware in protest against the military coup, according to the Mandalay Region Police Force. 

“We are taking action against over 30 people in seven districts including Mandalay under section 47 of the Police Act, for causing noise in public streets,” said police major Maung Maung Aye, deputy chief of Mandalay Region Police Force.  

Currently, they have been arrested in Chanmyathazi Township of Mandalay for the pot-banging movement and charged under the Police Act at the township court on February 5. 

Since the military coup on February 1, the pot-banging movement has been seen and carried out regularly in several large cities such as Yangon and Mandalay.
