2010 GUEST LEGEND KATHRINE SWITZER “In 1967, irate race official Jock Semple tried forcibly to remove Kathrine Switzer from the then all-male Boston Marathon simply because she was a woman. Luckily for Switzer, the official was bounced out of the race instead by her boyfriend and she went on to finish. Switzer was inspired by the incident to create running events for over a million women in 27 countries and led the drive to get the women’s marathon event into the Olympic Games (1984). Switzer is also the winner of the 1974 New York City Marathon, an Emmy Award-winning TV commentator of marathons, and author of the best-selling memoir Marathon Woman, Running and Walking for Women Over 40 and the co-author of 26.2: Marathon Stories. She will be the 2010 Guest Legend for the 15th Annual Dick Beardsley Half Marathon.” Read more about Kathrine PAST GUEST RUNNERS The race has hosted many distance running legends over the past years including; Alberto Salazar, Carrie Tollefson, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Bill Rodgers, Don Kardong, Doug Kurtis, Patti Catalano Dillon, Frank Shorter and Bart Yasso. 2010 ONLINE REGISTRATION Register online until September 4, 2010 at active.com 2010 BROCHURE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN APRIL Fill in the form below to access a PDF version of the Dick Beardsley Run Brochure and Registration form. |
