Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nifty Scanner?

Nifty Scanner is a browser extension focused on non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

You can use it to locate the metadata & media of an NFT available on the largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea!

Nifty Scanner will provide you key insights on the NFT and how decentralized the NFT is.

You can check the top NFT projects listed above and find out whether they are actually on the blockchain or stored on centralized servers.

What is the utility of Nifty Scanner?

Nifty Scanner is an easy-to-use tool that allows you to make better-informed decisions when acquiring NFTs, by checking their storage on the blockchain.

The location of this data ultimately makes the difference between a digital artwork lasting for generations and a broken link... with no NFT to be found.

‘Page not found’ is the nightmare of any NFT owner!

What are the browsers that support the Nifty Scanner extension?

The Nifty Scanner free browser extension is available on most browsers out there: Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Opera!

Enjoy!

What is the On-chain spectrum?

The on-chain spectrum helps determine whether the crucial aspects or properties of the NFT are on the blockchain, IPFS or if they are stored on centralized servers.

When you buy an NFT, you buy not only the token ownership but also its contents such as media and metadata that can be located on-chain (on a blockchain or on a decentralized network).

On Nifty Scanner, the spectrum helps you discover if the assets are on-chain or off-chain.

Higher range of on-chain spectrum means it's highly likely to be on blockchain. Lower range means the important components of the NFT are stored on centralized servers and hold the risk of being replaced in future without a trace.

What is ‘Media’?

Media for an NFT is the images, videos, GIFs and other media assets that are associated with the given Non-Fungible Token.

What is ‘Metadata’?

Each NFT has corresponding metadata which is additional important information about the item, such as the item's name, image, description, etc.

The metadata is especially important for games like CryptoKitties and other NFTs which have special properties associated with it.

How do you verify the smart contract?

Nifty Scanner looks for a smart contract for the NFT and checks whether it is verified on Etherscan.

How is the confidence score determined?

Nifty Scanner analyses the given NFT for the important aspects such as media, metadata and verification of the smart contract and generates a confidence score based on the info processed and whether these are on decentralized networks or on centralized servers.

The higher the confidence score on our On-chain spectrum, the less likely will the NFT disappear from the internet.

An NFT’s location ultimately makes the difference between an artwork lasting for generations and a broken link with no NFT to be found!
