Having changed career three times, I was introduced to this book by an outplacement consultant. I was an IT specialist then, working with the world’s largest IT services company. As Careers Education Manager now, I have enjoyed learning and applying many of the tools and techniques in the successive editions as well as passing them on to countless career changers and more recently students and graduates. This edition will offer you the comfort, assurance and much needed guidance from a trusted friend in these confusing times that you too can find, get or keep…a job you love.

This book has changed my life. Reading it gave me both the confidence and tools to switch sectors from financial services to arts. Before I had even finished the book I landed a job which is a very close match to my goals. I would say this book is almost as good as having your own personal coach and in some ways better as it forces you to do the hard yards yourself. The book is very easy to read and takes you through the main steps from confronting your barriers to researching to interviewing and landing the role. The exercises are well designed and are very powerful in getting you think more deeply about your interests and skills. He's also honest that it might be easier and better to use the techniques to refine the job you already have. John Lees seems to have a gift for giving tips which drive action as they are easy to understand. Unlike many self help authors who make grand statements "sharpen the sword", he is focused on what discrete and manageable steps you should take. To help me in my new I'm now reading his book on Resilience which so far is as good.

I loved this book because it is written as if John is talking to you. The ideas are very well explained and John suggests in a clear and straightforward way what you need to do next at each point. My husband has used this book and found it useful and he really, really dislikes the usual style of self-help books!
One of the few books of this type where I actually learned things and could follow them up.
This book and '
Knockout Cv: How To Get Noticed, Get Interviewed & Get Hired  have helped my husband and I make some big decisions and massive life changes and feel confident about those changes.
