I'm new sewist so I looked up fabric stores near me and Gizmo's came up. I needed the necessities to begin sewing and Gizmo's had everything that I needed!

The owner gave me different price options for everything I needed and was really nice in guiding me through the basics to get started.

I highly recommend new and seasoned sewists, I will certainly be back for all my sewing needs!

Had such a good experience that I decided to write my first Yelp review. For reference, I've been using Yelp for many many years and not once felt inclined to leave a review until I met Hossein at Gizmo Notion!

I brought in a old Singer machine from the 50s to get cleaned, serviced, and brought up to running order. Immediately I was met by Hossein with a warm welcome and enthusiasm about my old machine. After a briefly looking it over and chatting, it became clear he knows these machines like the back of his hand and I found the perfect man for the job. Although their website is limited, the Village Voice article on the homepage captures the beauty of this spot perfectly.

If you need any sewing machine repairs or are looking to buy an indestructible old one that runs great, Hossein at Gizmo Notion is your man!

I needed to replace a shirt button that our dry cleaner destroyed. And, as long as I was there, I bought some extra buttons. It cost me all of $2, but the owner treated me like I was spending $2,000.

I'm so glad that Gizmo is in the East Village!! This stores been a life saver so many times, and the store owner is the sweetest & kindest person ever. He has a great selection of threads, zippers, embellishments, fabric, and any other sewing supplies you may need. He's even able to fix your sewing machine!!! I recommend this place to everyone I know.

Was having some frustrating issues with my Bernette sewing machine so I decided to drop it off at Gizmo for a diagnosis and tune up. Dropped it off on Monday and got a call on Tuesday from Hussein telling me it was ready to be picked up. Surpassed my expectations. Mr. Hussein also made some
important recommendations about what other parts I should purchase & where to purchase them. Will be coming back here for future machine maintenance. Would highly recommend.

I live walking distance to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and yet I couldn't resolve why my Singer sewing machine had a persistent bird's nest problem. I brought my machine to Gizmo Notion and within minutes my machine was purring. Hussein explained where my problem was rooted and how to avoid future reoccurrence. This man is a maestro of the sewing community. Go there for repairs, advice or just as a support for someone who is truly committed to the sewing community. BTW, his pricing is beyond reasonable. Highly recommend.

What a great find. My mother passed on her very old Singer sewing machine that wasn't working. I had a very limited budget. I told him if it cost over $90 to fix the machine, I would junk it. Hussein is so honest. He said he'd charge for time and parts only. I checked, and in no time, he fixed it for under budget. What a lovely, honest professional. I hope he never leaves his little shop. I highly recommend this shop.

Gizmo's is the best! I have been customer for over 10 years. There is a nice selection of trims, threads, buttons and basic tools ect. Hossein is a extremely nice person and has given me helpful suggestions. He does magic with sewing machine and sergers as well! If you need your machine fixed go here! If you are a designer who needs some last minute notions and you live in or around the East village ...check if Gizmo has it before going all the way up to the garment district!

I love this place, they are so nice and helpful. Hard to find a trustworthy place to do sewing machine repairs and I'm so glad they're around. They also have standard trim and notion options. It's so nice to not have to go all the way to the Garment District to get what I need!

Gizmo is a hero, a knight in shining armor! He fixed my sewing machine when I was desperate, and he showed me how to maintain it in future. What a kind and helpful man! Honestly, I'd be in a big pickle if it wasn't for him! I'm really lucky I found this place, because I was worried about going somewhere dishonest, that would overcharge me. I will go only to Gizmo in the future! And I promise to come for regular maintenance too!
