An ad was behind home plate for Game 1 of the World Series between the Dodgers and Astros in Los Angeles, and it annoyed many viewers. However, YouTube likely got a good laugh out of it.
The ad was for YouTubeTV, and made it appear to the viewer like the Fox broadcast was a YouTube video, with the red YouTube play button placed in the middle of the screen.
This is excellent advertising — and trolling — by YouTube:
It also led to some excellent trolling on Twitter (I fell for this one).
And it especially led to many fans on Twitter complaining about the distraction:
WTF @YouTube
I love you, but you need stop this. Illusion the red "play" gives on the center of the screen is distracting! ? #WorldSeries pic.twitter.com/nm6porFZhP
