M.A. Chidambaram awards presented

Honour for Soundara Kailasm, Ki. Rajanarayanan and K. Ragavendra Rao

CHENNAI: Three awards, instituted by MAC Charities, were conferred on poet Soundara Kailasm, Tamil writer Ki. Rajanarayanan and entrepreneur K. Ragavendra Rao on the 90th birth anniversary of M.A. Chidambaram, founder of the charities.

Puducherry Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam, who presided over the function, gave away the awards.

Ms. Soundara Kailasam received the Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Award for her outstanding contribution to the growth and promotion of Tamil literature.

Sahitya Akademi Award winner Ki. Rajanarayanan received the Dr M.A.Chidambaram Award and Mr. Ragavendra Rao, chairman and managing director of Orchid Chemical and Pharmaceuticals, the Dr A.C. Muthiah Award. The awards comprise Rs. 1 lakh cash and a citation.

MAC Charities president A.C. Muthiah and his wife Devaki Muthiah participated.
