Defne Joy Foster was taken to the morgue of Göztepe Research and Training Hospital for an autopsy.
Defne Joy Foster, 31, a famous TV host, actress and former VJ, died early Wednesday at a friend's house in İstanbul.

The police are still working to uncover the exact cause of Foster's death, but reports said she might have died due to excessive alcohol consumption. The house in the Kadıköy district where she died was the house of Kerem Altan, the son of Taraf daily Editor-in Chief Ahmet Altan. News reports said Foster was out on Tuesday night at a bar in Taksim with Altan and the two friends later went to Altan's house. After a while, Foster lost consciousness.

Altan tried to help her, but was unable to do so and left the house to call a doctor. When he came back, he found that Foster was dead. Police and paramedics rushed to the house at the news that she had died. Ahmet Altan and Foster's husband, İlker Yasin Solmaz, also went to the house. Police reportedly found asthma medication in Foster's bag.

An investigation has been launched into Foster's death. Foster was taken to the morgue at the Göztepe Research and Training Hospital for an autopsy. Police reportedly detained Altan.

Born in 1979, Foster had a Turkish mother and American father. She became famous in the '90s as a VJ on the Kral TV music channel. She married Solmaz in 2008 and the couple had a son named Can Kılıç in 2009. She hosted various music TV programs. She also appeared in many TV series and movies. She most recently appeared on TV on the show "Yok Böyle Dans," a Turkish version of “Dancing with the Stars.” She was eliminated from the show last week.

Many claims emerged yesterday in news reports as to possible cause of Foster's death. Some said she was suffering from asthma and might have died of a severe asthma attack. Another claim was that she might have taken medication, perhaps pain killers, to relieve a headache and they might have led to her death after reacting with alcohol. Speaking to the Habertürk daily, Dr. Tuncay Filiz said almost all medications have adverse side effects when taken with alcohol. He said such medications can lead to respiratory dysfunction if taken after consuming alcohol. He added that this situation may lead to worse effects in those suffering from asthma and can lead to death, as it may have in done Foster's case.

Dr. Çağlar Çuhadaroğlu, an asthma specialist who treated Foster, told the Vatan daily that the last time he saw Foster was in 2008 and that Foster was not suffering from severe asthma.

Meanwhile, all eyes are now on Acun Ilıcalı, the producer of "Yok Böyle Dans," as to whether he will stop the show or continue after Foster's sudden death. Ilıcalı has reportedly been holding meetings with members of the Acun Media Company in order to decide on the fate of the show, which airs on Sunday nights and has high ratings.
