Northern Railways' Lucknow Division is one of the major Division of Northern Zone, Indian Railways; and extends from Faizabad in north, Prayaag in south, Varanasi in east, to Unaao in west. Formerly, it was part of Oudh Rohilkhand Railway and later became part of East Indian Railway from 1925 to 1952. The Division caters to rail transport requirement of the most populous State of the country, serves14 districts of Uttar Pradesh with a total route length of 1460 Kms. The area served, which is politically very sensitive and vulnerable to rallies and public demonstrations, is quite demanding and the Division has to maintain continuous preparedness and take control measures to keep the system responsive to meet the requirements. more... |

Lucknow Division, Northern Railway provides passenger and freight train services on a network of 1460 route kilometers with three major routes between Lucknow and Varanasi, Mughalsarai, covering 14 important districts of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow Division as an important part of Northern Railway provides extensive passenger services for large number of originating, terminating and passing through trains (over 170 Mail /Express, 30 MEMUs and 96 Passenger trains).
