Sleeping 101

01.17.02

Contrary to what Isaac Newton had to say about a body at rest tending to remain at rest, two Princeton University students fell out of their bunk beds recently, prompting an e-mail reminder to Ivy Leaguers to exercise more care while sleeping. Because they free up floor space, bunk beds are preferred by many dorm dwellers at Princeton. For one student, the university's December e-mail clarified a puzzling sign he had noticed on campus: "It said something ... like Students Against Bunk Bed Violence. I couldn't tell whether it was a joke or not." But junior Ari Samsky opined, "I felt like by the time you got to college you should be able (to use a) bed."
