Sikh leaders of BJP and AAP on Thursday released the old video of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in which he is seen justifying the anti-Sikh riots following the assassination of Indira Gandhi by saying “when a big tree falls, the earth shakes”.

The video was released by AAP leader and senior advocate HS Phoolka and BJP leader RP Singh during a press conference in the national capital.

Phoolka, who has been fighting for the rights of 1984 Sikh riots victims, demanded that Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna Award be withdrawn, and accused him of justifying the 1984 ‘genocide’.

“A Prime Minister who justifies the killing of innocent citizens, definitely does not deserve Bharat Ratna. We therefore call upon the government to withdraw the Bharat Ratna conferred upon Rajiv Gandhi,” Phoolka said.

“A Prime Minister who takes three years even to count the dead bodies of innocent citizens killed in open broad daylight in the capital, a Prime Minister whose party was responsible for a massacre, cannot be a Bharat Ratna. We demand Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna’s be taken back,” he said.

BJP leader Singh and Phoolka said that it was difficult to get the video of the speech as the same was deleted from the records and archives of Doordarshan and it was retrieved with much difficulty.

To a question on his sharing the platform with a BJP leader, Phoolka said, “We would try and involve all others for the cause and to help get justice to the victims of the 1984 carnage”.

He named leaders like Brinda Karat, Sharad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan, who have helped for the cause of Sikh victims of 1984.

The two were accompanied by another lawyer Tejinder Singh, whose family has suffered in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Kudos to Mr Phoolka for fighting against the congress for justice. On regular basis the tools of the state are used for achieving the objectives of their political masters. Whether it was 1884, Godra or exodus of Kasmiri Pandits the innocents have been butchered for no fault of theirs but their religion. And the state stood silent.

Friend, I have seen pomp and you are the icing on the cake. What does working in 3 continents to do with commenting on Indian Express. The average Indian software coolie (me included) work in almost all continents. So cut tje cr@p and delete the cv from your name. The man whome admire had a robust cv, he did not add it to his name and was humble enough to take instructions from a former PMs wife. Infact he was put in place by a college drop out called Raul Vinci from the same family.

The speech does not justify riots - it says that emotion was caused by the event and it's great that people have overcome that emotion and India is regrouping as a democratic nation - it's pertinent to remember that Mrs. hi was killed by followers of people who had d up in a religious place and had ordered killings of innocent Hindus and Sikhs in years immediate before - Hindus were pulled off buses and killed while Bhindranwale ran his program from the confines of the holiest Sikh shrine - so the anger and outrage was not just the killing of Mrs. hi but also at killing of Hindus before. But with that said THERE CAN BE NO KILLING OF ANY PERSON BY ANY PERSON OR ORGANIZATION FOR ANY REASON - 1984 riots were a sin against humanity like 2002 Gujarat riots were like Mumbai blasts were and perpetrators of all sins against humanity should punished to the greater extent of the law

You stupid listen him again and carefully. "कौन कौन लोग इसके पीछे हो सकते है?" (WHO WERE THOSE PLA BEHIND THE CURTAIN?) That's the question Rajiv is asking here. Where did he justifying riots in the speech? Instead I can clearly hear he is trying to give a clear hint of SOMETHING ELSE by saying "हमे याद रखना है कि इंदिराजी कि हत्या क्यू हुई और कौन कौन लोग इसके पीछे हो सकते है" Because Indira hi was inated within three years after she won by majority (despite of her decision of emergency) and that was the time when her opponents realized they are not going to win UNTIL SHE IS ALIVE. Here Rajiv is trying to give a clear hint we need to find out who helped Khalistani terrorists to make their way to inate her. WHO WERE THOSE PLA BEHIND THE CURTAIN? That's the question Rajiv asking here.
