Residential Life Live-in Staff

The Residential Life department offers several opportunities for students and professionals to serve as integral ive-in staff members of a residential community. Information about applying for these positions will be posted to this page when positions are available.

Graduate Resident Tutors (GRTs)

Graduate Resident Tutors are MIT grad students who serve as live-in mentors to the undergraduate community members of MIT's House Teams. Typically a GRT is assigned to a particular area within a residence, such as a floor or entry and provides study breaks, community building, or issues-oriented programs. GRT support exists during the academic year in all undergrad on-campus residences. GRT's report to their Housemasters and receive support from the RLP office .

The deadline to apply to be a GRT for 2012-2013 has passed. If you are interested, please check back here in the fall of 2013.

Housemasters
A Housemaster is an MIT faculty member (and in some cases, his or her spouse or partner) who lives in a residence hall, supervises the GRT’s, and takes a lead role in building community and supporting and advocating for students. Housemasters report to the Dean of Student Life. For more information on the program, please contact rlp-info@mit.edu.

MedLinks
MedLinks is a residence-based peer health advocacy program comprised of student representatives (called MedLinks) who have been trained in First Aid, CPR, and a variety of health-related issues. MedLinks help connect students to the many campus health resources available at MIT. They also educate students about the policies and the services of MIT Medical. You can find out more about the program at the MedLinks web site.

Resident Advisors (RAs)
Resident Advisors are professionals or grad students who serve as live-in mentors, role models, guides and resources for the students who live in MIT's residential FSILG facilities. Responsibilities of the RA position can vary from chapter to chapter. RA's teach and enforce MIT policies and safety practices, and receive training in cooperation with MIT's Medical Department, Safety Office, Facilities, Campus Police and other offices. RA support exists in all FSILG facilities through the academic year and the summer. The FSILG office oversees hiring for these positions and seeks men and women who take initiative to build rapport with the undergraduate members of the FSILG, as well as communicate with MIT and the Alumni Corporation of the FSILG.

Residential Associate Advisors (RAAs)
A Resident Associate Advisor is an experienced undergrad student who lives in one of the residences that facilitate the Residence-Based Advising Program (Next House, Chocolate City, Spanish House, and McCormick Hall). He or she works alongside Freshman Advisors to support first-year students. RAA’s also organize monthly programs for the entire community.

Residential Life Associates (RLAs)
A Residential Life Associate (RLA) is a full-time professional employee of the Residential Life Programs office who collaborates with the Housemasters, GRT’s, House Managers, and students to provide the residence halls with opportunities for personal development and wellness programming. Each RLA is responsible for several on-campus residences, and generally lives in one of those residences. RLAs report to the Associate Dean for Residential Life. For information on current RLA's, please see the staff page. Any openings for new RLAs will be posted by MIT Human Resources.

Summer Resident Assistants (Summer RAs)
A Summer Resident Assistant is an undergrad students who lives in an MIT residential community during the summer and is a fundamental part of the success of the summer housing experience. They are responsible for building community in their buildings, having a presence in their assigned areas, and for being a resource to students in terms of information about services available to students or contacting the appropriate people on campus in case of a crisis.
