Marking its leadership for 10 years on technology and innovation for adaptation, mitigation, and resilience, the United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network launched a report highlighting its efforts to foster climate resilience and innovation over the past decade. The report highlights diverse initiatives worldwide, such as creating eco-friendly building codes in Zimbabwe, drought forecasting in Saint Kitts and Nevis, improving industrial energy use in Pakistan, and much more. In 2023, a record proportion of actual electricity generation in Europe was from renewable sources, at 43%, compared to 36% in 2022. According to preliminary estimates from the International Disaster Database (EM-DAT), flooding in 2023 affected an estimated 1.6 million people in Europe and caused around 81% of the year’s economic losses due to climate impacts on the continent.
