Pig saves her owner's bacon

A four-month-old pig saved her owner's life by pulling her from a bog on a west Wales farm.

Prudence the pig - Pru to her friends - had learned several commands when helping owner Dee Jones round up livestock at Dan-y-Bryn farm near Whitland.

When Ms Jones became stuck in a bog, she took advantage of Pru's cleverness and looped a rope over the porker before telling her to go home.

Dee Jones demonstrates how Pru saved her
" I was panicking. I didn't know what to do and I think the pig sensed this," said Ms Jones.

"I put a rope around her and she pulled gently forward and I managed to get free.

"Without Pru I wouldn't have been able to get out of the mire."

When she is not busy saving her owner's bacon, Pru helps around the farm.

"I run Pru with the sheep dogs. She helps to get the cattle and the sheep in," said Ms Jones.

"She loves to run around the fields and the animals aren't scared of her. She is a really big help."

Special pig

She said she has taught the Welsh breed piglet to follow different commands.

"She knows sit, lie down, come here and go home."

Ms Jones knew she had a special pig on her hands when Pru started opening gates.

"She moved bails of hay so she could stand on them to open the gate with her mouth," she added.
