From the Senator to the Lawyer: the Agnelli family

On 11th July 1899, in Palazzo Bricherasio, is signed the memorandum of association of the "Societ� Anonima Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino" (Joint stock company Italian automobiles factory Torino). Thirty stockholders for a stock capital of 800 thousand liras. Among the members of the administrators� board, Giovanni Agnelli, who soon stood out for his unique dynamism. In 1900 in Corso Dante 35 the first Fiat plant is inaugurated. Inside its 12.000 m3, there are 150 workers. During this year thirty 3 1/2 HP, a two-three seater "vis � vis". A little curiosity, the car is not yet provided with reverse gear.

In 1902 the la 24 HP Corsa is presented, it is the first Fiat racing car. Driven by Vincenzo Lancia, it wins the climb competition Sassi-Superga. At the second Automobile Tour of Italy Giovanni Agnelli set up the record on Fiat 8 HP. In 1906 the workers of Fiat have become 2.500 and the export amounts to two thirds of the whole production; in the United States Fiat conquers a share of the market while in Italy it purchases the Ansaldi machine shops. In 1908 is born the Fiat 1 Fiacre of which 1600 pieces are produced. The vehicle, designed for the public transportation, is adopted in New York City, London, Paris, and many other cities. With this vehicle for the first time Fiat uses the �boat� propeller, where the engine embodies the gear in the crankcase.

In 1910 Fiat completely renovates its production: the Tipo 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are born: they are the first cars to be provided with the electric battery. With the Tipo 3, also labeled 20-30 Hp, the universal joint drive, Fiat patent, is fist adopted. In 1912 the Fiat Lubrificanti (Fiat Oils) is founded, while in Russia is born the first Italian branch office for the production of cars and spare parts. In 1919 the Magneti Marelli is founded.
