Fake $50 notes circulating throughout Canberra, ACT police warn

Posted May 31, 2016 13:02:39

Counterfeit money has been in circulation throughout Canberra in recent months, ACT police have warned.

Officers have been called out to more than 35 businesses over the past two months in connection to counterfeit $50 notes.

Canberrans are being encouraged to keep an eye out for the counterfeit cash.

ACT Policing said when a $50 note is held up to a light, a seven-pointed star within a circle is formed by four points on one side of the banknote, combining perfectly with three points on the other side.

Counterfeit banknotes are usually of poor quality and appear to be of different material, and police said it was worthwhile for the public to check their notes.

Anyone who may be aware of the production of counterfeit currency or who has received one of these counterfeit notes is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
