38th CASCO Plenary held in Uganda this week The ISO committee for conformity assessment (CASCO) gathered for its annual plenary, hosted by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). From 23-26 April, we dove into the heart of conformity assessment. The meeting also offered the opportunity to explore the Online Standards Development (OSD) platform and to learn more about ISO’s Action Plan for Developing Countries. The week culminated in a workshop on the African Continental Free Trade Area (#AfCFTA) and how conformity assessment supports businesses and economies in implementing it, facilitating trade and ensuring quality and safety. Happy #EarthDay! 🌍 Today we’re reminded of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability. Plastic pollution, global warming from fossil fuels and deforestation are some of the biggest contributors to our planet’s degradation. A powerful tool to help create a healthier and more resilient planet for all: International Standards. For example, ISO has many standards that are relevant in the fight against #PlasticPollution. Key plastic lifecycle stages covered by ISO standards: ✅ recycling & composting ✅ labelling & transparency ✅ end-of-life assessment. But collaboration is key! We must all do our part to reduce our environmental impact. Learn more on how using standards can help 👉 https://bit.ly/3xMdYPO

Pleased to have our Secretary General Sergio Mujica deliver a keynote speech at the SCMA Distinguished Speaker Series 👏 Messages on the role that International Standards play in maritime decarbonization and the adoption of new fuels, and how the ISO system can help facilitate a sustainable maritime future, were shared. We applaud Enterprise Singapore’s leading role in international standardization and encourage all those in the maritime industry to contribute to the development of ISO standards on alternative fuels. Thanks to Sauw Kook Choy for facilitating this opportunity to appear at this Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) event.
#DidYouKnow that the maritime industry contributes to around 3% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions caused by human activity? This is why countries need to collaborate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through international #standards. At Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), we heard from Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General at ISO - International Organization for Standardization during his engagement with Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport, Singapore and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, as well as his keynote on how this works: 1) Standards act a bridge by providing businesses with industry best practices to achieve #sustainability goals and compliance, with accountability and transparency. 2) For businesses transitioning to alternative fuels, standards can steer them towards efficient environmental practices more seamlessly. 3) National Standards Bodies such as Enterprise Singapore, through the Singapore Standards Council, are developing and elevating national standards to help maritime companies meet global needs. Our standards partners Dennis Ho and Sanjay Verma also shared how standards can enhance processes such as electronic documentation, as well as the safe use of alternative fuels. Thank you to all speakers for their insights. Together, we can build a greener and more resilient maritime industry.
