NASA will conduct an ambitious test flight of its revolutionary ‘flying saucer’ technology Tuesday as scientists lay the foundations for future Mars missions.

The high altitude test at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, will use a huge balloon to carry the 15-foot wide, 7,000-pound test flying saucer to high altitude. The balloon, roughly the size of three football fields, will lift the flying saucer to 120,000 feet, at which point the vehicle will be released. A booster rocket will then transport the saucer at Mach 4, four times the speed of sound, to a height of 180,000 feet.

During the Baltimore riots last night, CNN reporter Joe Johns walked up to a man on the street and asked him:

“Sir, who are you?”

The man responded:

“I’m just a soldier.”

The man’s name is Robert Valentine, Vietnam veteran. And what followed was perhaps the most remarkable 70 seconds of video we’ve seen over two nights of chaos in the Baltimore streets:

Johns: “You sort of took it upon yourself to tell those young people to go away. Aren’t you a little bit concerned for your own safety?”

Valentine: “Here’s number one. I did 30 years, okay? Came out a Master Sergeant. I’ve seen more than all this. I’ve been through the riots already. This right here is not relevant. They need to have their butts at home, they need to be in their home units with their family, studying and doing something with their life. Not out here protesting about something that’s not really nothing.

They do not respect this young man’s death, you know?…So I’m very pissed…

I love my country, I love my Charm City, and I’m an American. I’m not Black, White, red, yellow, or nothing; I am American.”

Incredible words from Robert Valentine, an American hero.

He’s a patriot, I’m sure,” the former New York City mayor told “Fox and Friends.” “What I’m saying is, in his rhetoric, I very rarely hear the things that I used to hear Ronald Reagan say, the things that I used to hear Bill Clinton say about how much he loves America.”

Some things are easy to avoid.

Don’t want to be hit by a train? Don’t play on train tracks. Don’t want your kid to get measles? Get them vaccinated. Can’t afford to pay your employees more? Don’t advocate for raising the minimum wage. Done and done.

But many granola-crunching, tofu-eating progressives think they can kale their way to a super immune system for their kids, so they’re skipping the vaccinations for measles and everything else. And other progressives are closing their businesses because the laws for which they advocated have sent them to the poorhouse.

Obama Redistribution Tax Agenda Widens Partisan Gulf

Barack ObamaDemocrats are abandoning what was once an area of promising bipartisan agreement on tax policy: lowering individual tax rates and broadening the base.

The party, led by President Barack Obama, is instead increasingly viewing tax policy as a means to other ends — a way to finance breaks for education and child care and to fight middle-class wage stagnation. That puts them at odds with Republicans, who champion lower rates and a simpler tax code as the path to economic growth.

That widening gulf — amplified in Obama’s State of the Union speech Tuesday night — makes it harder to see a bipartisan approach to revamping the individual tax system while he’s in office. As the two parties develop their agendas for 2016, they’re not even speaking the same language on tax policy for individuals.

obama-cooperationPresident Barack Obama has a resolution for the New Year and the Republican-controlled Congress convening next week in Washington: Cooperate more and use executive actions less.

Obama has already used some quite extensive executive actions, including a decree on immigration reform, reports The Wall Street Journal, but he still has some top agenda items left to achieve during his last two years in office.

Some senior administration officials say that those priorities might stand a better chance of happening without Democrats in charge of the Senate.

But the six years since Obama first took office have been contentious ones, and while Republican leaders say they want to work with the president, aides told The Journal that the leaders don’t believe he’ll compromise with them.
