U.S. Representative and Democratic presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard has filed legislation which would pave the way for a return to a 1987 law mandating equal media attention on political or social issues.

The Hawaii democrat submitted H.R. 4401 last month which would reinstate a law known as the "Fairness Doctrine" which was in place from 1949-1987.

Dubbed the "Restore the Fairness Doctrine Act of 2019," the bill would force television and radio broadcasters to "afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views on issues of public importance."

The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 19 but has yet to garner a co-sponsor in the Senate.
