China’s ‘secret police stations’ in UK must be investigated, say MPs

London and Glasgow claimed to be among list of operations to target critics and dissidents

Accusations that China is operating secret police stations in Britain are “very concerning” and will be treated extremely seriously, the government has said.

A report compiled by a civil liberties group claimed that the Chinese Communist Party has established a global network of undeclared police hubs, which are used to silence dissenters and force them to return home.

Safeguard Defenders, a human rights organisation based in Madrid, said China’s “overseas service centres” span 30 countries in five continents. The highest concentration is in Europe.

Researchers identified possible outposts in London and Glasgow after their addresses were published by Chinese police agencies in the Fuzhou and Qingtian counties. One document from the Fuzhou City Public Security Bureau, seen by The Times, listed them among 54 operational
