Hidden History: The Secret Origins of the First World War.

Rate this book
A new theory on how World War I started—not with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but rather 10 years earlier, by power-hungry men whose lies have infiltrated history Hidden History uniquely exposes those responsible for World War I. It reveals how accounts of the war's origins have been deliberately falsified to conceal the guilt of the secret cabal of very rich and powerful men in London responsible for the most heinous crime perpetrated on humanity. For 10 years, they plotted the destruction of Germany as the first stage of their plan to take control of the world. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was no chance happening. It lit a fuse that had been carefully set through a chain of command stretching from Sarajevo through Belgrade and St. Petersburg to that cabal in London. Our understanding of these events has been firmly trapped in a web of falsehood and duplicity carefully constructed by the victors at Versailles in 1919 and maintained by compliant historians ever since. The official version is fatally flawed, warped by the volume of evidence they destroyed or concealed from public view. Hidden History poses a tantalizing challenge. The authors ask only that you examine the evidence they lay before you.

Despite its sensationalist title, and somehow bland cover, this is a much more detailed account of the World War I central players, the people behind the scenes, than is usually given. Going all the way to the origins of the groups that were at the center of the drive for war, at the Rhodes Society, the authors give a very researched and well connected account of the overall political picture at the time. The authors highly influenced, by Georgetown University professor Carol Quigley and his books on the 20th century history of these organizations, and the roles the people behind them played in shaping policy.

In that respect, the official version of the war is reevaluated, to link the motivations of the known British figures such as Cecil Rhodes and Alfred Milner with the way the events unfolded. Documents, articles and books written in the immediate afterword of the Great War, and in the next few decades, have largely been ignored and suppressed, and their opposite point of view to the official version point to the fact that they probably hold an important aspect of the truth. If they were wrong, historians would have been able to criticize and refute them, but what we have is a total eclipse of this information, proving once again the old adage that "history is written by the winners". (There is a parallel with the way modern journalists such as Seymour Hersh, Chris Hedges and Bill Moyers are ignored today, especially when the matter was criticism of military endeavors such as Iraq.)

Starting from the origins of the Rhodes Society in South Africa, and the machinations that led to the Second Boer War, the players who came out of this Society to have roles in politics, media and education are closely followed, making Hidden History feel almost like an engulfing thriller. A new interpretation of their biographies is given, in light of their role in the British governments that led the country into the war. No unverified information is presented, while more emphasis is put into some important events of their lives, such as the trial for the extramarital affair of Lloyd George, and his indebtedness, as a result, to the Rhodes and Milner groups. The connections that Docherty and Macgregor make are very clear and well proofed, especially when it comes to the pre-war telegrams between Austria and Serbia, and Germany and Britain.

Through such conflicts as the Boer Wars and the Morrocan criris, the emphasis is on the relationships that people from the Rhodes Society, Milner's Group and Roberts' Academy have with government officials, going as far as making the case for Edward VII's involvement with these groups. Nothing is coincidental here, and the connections that high-up officials, such as prime-ministers Balfour and Asquith have with the people behind the scenes, serve as a head point towards their motives and political biases. The direct links that are established between these British elites and important foreign ministers or ambassadors reveal a vast network of agents for the elite, who are able to give a new political push to the governments needed to be influenced.

The book's middle part can seem a bit long and full of too many names, but luckily for the readers, the authors had the good idea to put an index with short biographies of all the key players. The conclusive chapters on the Sarajevo assassination and the pre-war mediations are very fast paced and full of interesting details about the final hours of the ticking clock.

Most strikingly, there is a reveal in the conclusive chapter of the role that even future US president Herbert Hoover played in gathering the sensitive documents of World War I, and storing them into a private collection in America, known now as the Hoover Institution Library and Archives. Even if very scarce sources can confirm that his humanitarian position in Belgium during WWI was a front for collecting all the historical document that could be found, the idea that all these documents were vigorously collected in the mists of a world war is questionable, to the least.

This is a well-documented and rational take on the real political picture before World War I and the Machiavellian tactics that were used to bring this unnecessary disaster upon the European populace. It is, after all, a critical thinking exercise for us, the so-called diligent citizens, to try to evaluate this complex conflict from all angles. One does not get a balanced position by neglecting different perspective, and we shouldn't get into the religious support of one official narrative. Especially not when the ideological push for anti-German feeling is well documented from that time, and therefore we in the Anglo-Saxon world are not excluded from the blame.

As a professional work of history, this book shines a light onto regular people who are still able to do a quasi-academic research to contribute to a proper understanding of our history of the war to end all wars. Coming from a school teacher and a medical practitioner, it is an excellent work of history that hopefully could be taught in schools 30-50 years from now, as the history of Belgium's atrocities in the Congo, is now a well accepted narrative of the downfalls of colonialism.

Very well researched, and well written. Based on Carroll Quigley's initial revelations. The existence of secret anglo american societies seeking global dominance are well documented and revealing the enormous efforts to destroy all documentations of their activities.
This work is also of importance because it also sheds light on the continuation of the same attempts in our time.

A courageous and masterful work, crucial to anyone that considers themselves a seeker of knowledge. Exposes the same methods being used today, so that along with the evil of the war, they taught subsequent generations of power-crazed psychopaths the way "things are done." HH convincingly exposes the secretive group of powerful British imperialists' plans to start a war to stop the German imperialistic challenge. A few sentences about German atrocities in Africa would have gone a long way in dispelling the pro-German accusations even though it's a dishonest accusation. The authors mention Belgian crimes, so it can be construed as a purposeful omission. It would have enlarged the context of the S African chapters, regarding the general behavior of Europeans in Africa .

HH can also be read as a blueprint for subsequent actions to further other imperialistic aims like 9-11 and the Middle East/N.African wars and destabilization, or the relentless and absurd propaganda about the Russian "threat." Here we see the obvious complicity of politics, mainstream press and establishment intellectuals in full effect - the same system engineered by the Milner group over 100 years ago. People have gotten a bit wiser on the whole and the propaganda is so bad that it's clearly an act of desperation.

One thing that always amazes me about these massive, complex evil plots is how the wicked get all of the most incredible breaks of luck; whenever the catastrophe can be averted by the seemingly simple reversal of a decision, or the revelation of some key statement, it never is. The villains are almost cartoon caricatures in their ability to deceive and the victims are too naive to be credible, yet these are the basic types we are dealing with in life.

The lack of ratings and reviews from this site could be because the book was not reviewed in mainstream media. Anything that exposes official establishment history never is. I saw the book mentioned or reviewed on Global Research. Apparently, not many readers of history and good literature saw that review. Hell, it wasn't even on any of the WWI lists. Is there such an avalanche of books published on WWI that the afficionados can't keep up? Not even the Germans are reviewing/rating it - and the book absolves their country of the crime! So much for German efficiency. Wake up, my Teutonic friends, God knows you need something to smile about. I added it to the lists, even the freakin' Downton Abbey one.

All I will say about this jaw dropping account of the REAL reasons for the slaughter that was World War One, is if you scoff and refuse to believe the well worked and logical series of manipulated events that led to the destruction of Germany Is to look at how the right wing media and politicians portray Putin and Russia and think that HISTORY DOES REPEAT ITSELF!

THE VICTORS WRITE THE HISTORY BOOKS NEVER HAD MORE MEANING THAN THE INFORMATIOMN CONTAINED IN THIS BOOK WHICH IS ESSENTIAL READING FOR ANY LOVER OF HISTORICAL TRUTH AND OPENESS!

This is a great primer for modern war and how they actually start. If you don't want to read it then check out James Corbett's outstanding series on YouTube or just go to https://www.corbettreport.com/wwi/ where much of this excellent documentary is based on the authors' work.

An Important lesson from history

When the world it seemed, rallied to oppose the proposed war with Iraq, George Bush and his cabal could not be dissuaded from declaring and then executing the War. We now know the war was waged-not for the best national interest of the U.S.- but for the interest of Zionist Israel our ‘ally’ in the Middle East. There is also a growing amount of documentation that 9-11 was the work of the Mossad with help from rogue U.S. government/military personnel. These evil forces were successful in WW1–and again for the Iraq war (and Syria, Libya, Somalia, Iran, Lebanon....).

"To Historians is granted a talent that even the gods are denied – to alter what has already happened." I bear this sentence from the 'Introduction' of Hitler's War by David Irving.
This book is a classic example of how history is manipulated by so-called Historians and fed to the mass who knowingly or unknowingly working for the propaganda that ultimately benefits the handful of people in whose hand the absolute power lies. A must-read book to know how the conspiracy works.

A bit speculative but not too far afield. It certainly fits the overblown view that certain British aristocrats had of themselves. The authors believe, along with American historian Carroll Quigley, that WWI was engineered by Cecil Rhodes, the head of the house of Rothschild and others through a secret society promoting the expansion of the Empire. It is an intriguing thesis.

Firstly I think it would be helpful to have some knowledge of WW1 and know some of the characters in the book to appreciate what the authors are trying to portray here. Yes there is definitely some mileage in the theory of a secret history behind the lead up to the War and the book IMO successfully proves that Germany did not start or try to start a war in 1914. I personally do have a working knowledge of this period and the story does tie up,in its theme, lots of glaring issues, for example Wilson’s role as mediator with France over all matters concerning the British Army and his gentleman’s promise to come to France’s aid over Germany, always sounded unfeasible to me. With regards the Belgium ‘innocent’ neutrality ploy, that led Britain into War, I think the book successfully puts this peace of skulduggery to rest ( they’d been planning along with the French and British since 1907) also Belgium’s murderous behaviour in the Congo, IMO excludes them from being classified as innocent bystanders. However, overall, a war with Germany would have happened eventually, they were a growing economic force at the centre of Europe and their rising population, like Japan in 1936 would have required additional territory. That Britain and the ‘secret elite’ used their power, Empire and wealth to influence a war in their interests and at a date of their choice, before the German Navy became bigger than Britain’s is no real surprise. The crime committed here is side stepping the Liberal Government of the time, that was elected on a peace/ no war platform by subterfuge and deceit, ( which involved both Edward VII and George V compliance ) thus denying the chance for parliament and the people to vote on wether they wanted a War with Germany in 1914. A war that killed and maimed millions of them.

It has been said that one of the reasons for conspiracies is for people to try to make sense of events in a way to find some sense of order or purpose to events. Many people find it far more believable and comforting if there is some greater agency behind things. This is a prime example of this. The events leading up to the Great War are numerous and complex but the authors would like you to believe that is was instead orchestrated by the Cecil Rhodes and his acolytes. They take every acquaintance and college buddy that was from the cream of the social elites of Britian (which surprisingly were men with similar outlooks and connections) add in a little deviousness from Jewish Bankers to develop an larger conspiracy to destory peaceful and innocent Imperial Germany.
I finished the book more out of a sense of duty and wonderment of how which other famous individual would appear. I have to admit I didn't see Herbert Hoover coming in the end ot snatch away any incriminating documents and dump them into a secret archive of Stanford.

I thought of writing an expansive, point-by-point, review, but decided that this book was not worth the effort. It is a combination of theses from German wartime propaganda with the worst form of Anglo-Saxon solipsism that implicitly assumes that no person not speaking English natively can ever have any sort of moral and/or political agency. Its alleged "discoveries", such as German leadership fallaciously believing that Britain is too distracted by the internal affairs, particularly in Ireland, to enter a European war (which can only excuse German actions from the above-mentioned solipsistic viewpoint) were widely discussed by historians as far back as 1920s, and the same accusation of creating this appearance intentionally was levied at the British government back then too (with the same weak evidence).

As for origins of the WWI, the case was closed more than sixty years ago by Luigi Albertini in his "Origins of war of 1914". No author since then had discovered any new primary sources allowing to reconstruct events differently, Docherty with MacGregor are no exception, and could not be an exception - as you might notice as early as in their "Acknowledgments" at the start of the book, neither of them knows German. In fact, sheer arrogance of writing a book that is supposed to radically change our views on the genesis of WWI without being able to at least read German, French and Russian texts can only be explained by, again, solipsism. That, or contempt for the readers.

"Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."

The problem is, most of what is sold as "history", is just lies and gaslighting formulated to conceal real situations, real motivations, and even conceal who the real power players are, or were - especially about big events.

American history is full of such false narratives. The author's description of the real situations and motives leading up to the Boer War is quite good. It might even seem familiar to those conversant with JFK's assassination; the Vietnam War; Indonesia; the 9/11 "terrorist" attacks and the Afghan, Iraq and Syria Wars; the Mackinder strategic view and the Ukraine War.

Docherty goes into lengthy detail about the "secret elite" conniving with counterparts in France, Russia and Britain, and maneuvering a reluctant Germany into war, how they were eventually successful.
He pretty much attributes ww1 to their activities.

Some authors have Europe sleep walking into war (while manufacturing lots of weapons and ammo beforehand during their lengthy sleep walk) and "accidentally" tripping and falling into a four year murderous conflict, without somehow "snapping out of it"....

Other authors, Mearsheimer the most authorative, might see it as a product of the way great powers deal with security threats. Threats like the newly unified heavily industrializing Germany, constructing a navy held for Britannia. Like the sting of German seizure of former French territories by Germany in the 1870 war, its larger population, its growing might, and military prowess held for France. Or, the threat to Germany posed by potential enemies to the west and to the east, with Russia rapidly industrializing, adding rail transport facilitating rapid troop movements.

My take is that ww1 was a war setup and doomed to continue even after the participants saw how much more destructive it was than envisioned, with all parties choosing to go on and on with it. The "secret elite" played a role in how it played out, but they were playing on a real field of basic threats and security problems to the warring parties, rather than getting a war going to secure resource lands worth fortunes, as in the case of the Boer War.

If you found your way to this book, you're already a free-thinking individual, capable of critical thought, and likely have a deep distrust of authority and government.

Everything you've been told about the world we live in is built on carefully constructed lies. It's all a fabrication, orchestrated by a select group of people who utterly detest your existence and want you dead in the ground.

These sorts of evil men still operate today. They hate you, your family, your community, every fiber of your existence, and they're hellbent on the destruction and subjugation of the hoards of us 'useless eaters'. They want to limit your travel. They want to make you physically and mentally weak by shoving pharmaceuticals down your throat and in your arm, by eliminating your consumption of meat and foods that help you thrive.

Fight back. Sic Semper Tyrannis.

This is a book that completes the understanding of the previous period of the First World War and the real causes of the international rivalries and tensions that led Europe to shed a century of growth and development in the mud, let alone the cost of reassembling things. The story told is very interesting and is supported by abundant references cited.

That said, while a large number of accredited authorities also confirm the existence of the group considered "the secret elite" to simplify the labyrinth of names and titles they used, there were evidently hidden aspects and interests beyond the mere economy and geopolitics.

It was an amazing read.

Excellent overview of the machinations of a Secret Elite to undemocratically create WWI. Busts the myth of Germany's fault in the lead up to the war. Lots of footnotes. Was instrumental for me in a study of the roots of "The Establishment's" power and ideology and how that has been maintained through time into the present. So many of our current conservative undemocratic tactics, ideology, and propaganda are prefigured here.

A very interesting read. I approached this book with an open mind. I do not consider myself a "conspiracy theory" person but I keep my eyes open to all reasonable points of view as long as they have some basis in reason and fact. This book qualifies. It gives plausible explanations to many unanswered or incompletely answered questions on the causes and results of World War I. I encourage anyone who is interested in the history of this era to give this book a serious look.

Throughly recommend this brilliant book i couldn't put it down. The First World War had its roots in the Roundtable Group and they were the prime movers pre Boer War well of that conflict and the conflict between 1914 and 1918. Some in the mainstream may view it as 'conspiracy' history but the authors may not be 'historians ' but they have done tremendous research. Will definitely purchase the follow up .

Wow what an eye opener. The origins of WW1 never made sense to me. This book puts forward a creditable explanation. If the thesis of this book is correct, I fear our near term prospects as there are so many similarities between turn of the century England and America circa 2018. Truly a red pill experience, read this book if you want insights into why the 20th century was so bloody.
