For those who don't know yet, the "Global media controls" allows you to control music or videos playing in the background (or in PiP) without opening the respective window or tab, here's what these controls look like in Edge currently:

(Global media controls are not enabled by default, you have to go to the flags page and enable them).
In September of last year, Google began testing a "modern" UI for these controls, some users liked it and others did not, but knowing Google, it was already known that the new interface would be added regardless of the opinion of the users. Since then, Google has been working on improving this "modern" UI and the latest improvement is the addition of a progress bar:
Progress bar (Chrome Canary).

Microsoft has not yet added the flag that allows to enable the "modern" UI (and it is not known if they will add it or not), but you can enable it using a command line flag: --enable-features=GlobalMediaControlsModernUI
Shortcut properties.

Unfortunately the progress bar doesn't work well in Edge (you can see it in the GIF), this is an Edge specific bug, I never saw it in Chrome Canary, so it's up to the Edge developers to fix it, but, since this modern UI hasn't been enabled in Edge yet, don't expect the bug to be fixed anytime soon.
IMO, the progress bar is quite a useful feature, so I hope Microsoft enables the "modern" UI in Edge so that we can use the bar (or at least add a similar progress bar to the "old" controls).
