R.L. Burnside Scheduled For Heart Surgery
Blues singer/guitarist R.L. Burnside is scheduled for heart
surgery at a Memphis, Tenn., hospital Tuesday (Aug. 31), according to
his record company, Fat Possum. Burnside recently canceled two shows
because of shortness of breath and exhaustion, according to the label.
Burnside, 72, who first recorded his primitive brand of blues in 1967,
brought his music to a new, younger audience with his albums on Fat
Possum. On two of those albums, A Ass Pocket of Whiskey (1996)
and Mr. Wizard (1997), he was backed by the Jon Spencer Blues
Explosion.
