Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership that helps vaccinate half the world’s children against some of the world’s deadliest diseases. Since its inception in 2000, Gavi has helped to immunise a whole generation – over 1 billion children – and prevented more than 17.3 million future deaths, helping to halve child mortality in 78 lower-income countries.

Delivered the Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance statement on #AMR during the #UNGA Multi-Stakeholder Hearing on #antimicrobialresistance. Despite #vaccines being one of the most cost-effective ways of preventing morbidity and mortality that play an essential role in tackling AMR, it is still under-valued and under-utilized in the fight against AMR. 3 key calls to action: 1) Integrate immunization into National AMR Action Plans and ensure alignment with national immunization strategies to maximize potential benefits. 2) Increase awareness of the linkages between vaccines and AMR, clearly demonstrating the preventive effect of vaccination on AMR. 3) Scale up funding for routine immunization and reaching zero-dose children – those who have never received a single dose of any vaccine – to mitigate the long-term impact of missed immunisations on AMR.
