What does your new principal need to know about your program? Which Standards are the most important and why? What are the areas of strength of your school? What are the areas of growth that currently exist at your school? What questions do you think are important for potential candidates to answer in the interviews?

1. harding truely works as a commuity. The parents, teachers and students have excellent channels for communication and meeting the diverse needs of our community. Create an infrastructure to support effective learning environment strong parent engagement and support lack of access to subsitutes what do you plan to build upon at Harding and what would you like to expand, grow? The community is very diverse so curious to better understand how they plan to meet everyone's needs.
3
Communication and transparency
Guide the instructional program
Strong community Ability to be competitive in attracting teachers due to funding +1 How will you integrate with the community?
4
1,2 Really well organized, smoothly run How will you support and engage teachers and staff? They are a critical piece of our school community and overall success
5
That it is a full inclusion school 1,2,4 extra curricular activities funded by PTA through very hard work and fund raising efforts Easier access to support for families who are in crisis and have other challenges How have you used diplomacy to resolve conflicts between resources and needs?
6
Delivering education equitably to a diverse student body and leveraging that diversity for the school and the community 2, 5 amazing teachers and dedicated staff More support from the district to offer after care. The city only offer a limited space and it can be expensive +1 How will you plan to deal with and/or work around staffing shortages? +2
7
Transparency 1: must not only have a strong community developed vision, but an ability to execute and get funding for the programs dedicated teachers Easier access to services for students who need access to additional services How do you view your relationship and role with students (directly)?
8
Understanding of special education 2. must believe in building a culture of engaging and supporting teachers and all other standards follow strong volunteering from parent community Curious what the transition period will look like and how much time the new candidate will have to work with our current principle?
9
Committment to Teachers College reading and writing curriculum (Teahcers have very strong buy-in and support for this & has been a lab site) 3.2 effective learning environment: not just for the few but for all, even those who need to be challenged great communication from PTA 1) we can do better to engage a more diverse group of families - for example, we've recently improved translation services, but I think our communication methods may not be reaching everyone +1 How do you view your relationship with the parent community?
10
Ability to effectively mentor and coach less experienced teachers 4 consistent standards across grades and teachers I've noticed at Fairmont there is a lot more diversity of lived experience type events, groups and presence within the school community that it would be nice to see flourish more at our school. Their experience with building community across different perspectives, specifically how they embody Justice, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and even more specifically anti-racism values in their work. +1
11
Strong boundaries. they all seem important, some will lead to others and many depend on the resources the principal has as their disposal to execute on the standard a very intentional desire to reach all of the community, for example, translated newsletter in over 3 languages Aftercare is not only hard to get into, but very structured and in my opinion, rigid. I wish it allowed for more unstructured outdoor play time. also lots of turnover of staff. What are your thoughts on the role of collaboration and transparency with teachers and families?
12
Committment to shared leadership +1 Strong and active PTA who have a deeper understanding of equity I am wondering about the mental health supports available at a time when mental health of kids is at such a crisis point nationally. We heard anecdotally that supports were not sufficient in one particular case, but makes me wonder about professional resources available for children experiencing anxiety, bullying, and other challenges. When do you feel like you're really succeeding as a principal and a leader? What is happening when you feel successful? I think this will reveal their priorities and values
13
Be able to support staff when needed Diverse student body! Teachers are passionate helping students mental health support, teachers and support for the arts (Ms. Steele is great but not enough- also fully funded by the PTA.) What extra curriculars does the district fund? what is your approach to creating transparency, especially when it is difficult?
14
Be able to support staff with complex behavioral issues. what is your vision of a full inclusion school, and the priorities that entails?
15
Support of teacher action research, lesson study, and other effective means of improving teacher practice & collaboration 1) Teachers and staff are amazing and make the school! 2) lots of engaged families that support a variety of activities at the school - garden, art cart, playground, library, etc more support from the district. one very small example, we have been in the cue to get a new shade structure in the lunch area and don't even know where this stands relative to other needs across the district. on days when the sun is strong we want shade for our kids and can't even fund raise for a solution ourselves b/c the district requires we go through them. with limited resources what are your strategies for retaining and recruiting great teachers +1
16
We have the most incredible teachers & staff at Harding, and I agree that our parent community is really special What is their approach to discipline and do they believe in restorative justice principles? +1
17
Harding is a good place to be and work all the personal there in Harding is amazing. How are you going to collaborate with the Harding community?
18
Committment to ongoing teacher learning and collaboration +1 Prioritizing safety and a safe learning space for teachers and students, especially during a pandemic. How are you going to check in with the Harding community and parents during your first yr?
19
Flexibility in addressing the diverse needs of children and how they learn
20
Commitment to social-emotional learning and inquiry for teachers and students. high levels of communication and transparency
21
forward thinking, research based strategies for curriculum and teaching consistent teaching across teachers and grades, and commitment to continual professional development for teachers (having them work together at each grade level) +1
22
The special education team and teachers are incredible.
23
Strong collaboration in every way (administrative team, teachers, principal, parents.
24
Our school feels teacher- and student-centered. It seems like teachers have time and space to collaborate and that our students social-emotional needs are met. +1
25
Morning meeting
26
Teachers are encouraged to work together as teams and collaborate, and to develop professionally
27
it seems like our principal has been a good advocate for our teachers and for attracting and retaining teachers (despite current challenges)
28
Our teachers are great, and many have been there for years and seem committted to our school and students
29
We are a community who truly cares for one another. We all are contributing what we can to collectively raise kind children who love to learn.
30
our current principal has been the glue of our school. many teachers and families will say this. she has been able to navigate a district which is very resource constrained, she attends PTA meetings in the evenings to give honest transparent updates about things happening at the school, she opens and closes the school at all hours of the day/night for extra activities, she subs classes, and she does an excellent job bringing in new good/qualified/engaged teachers.we are nervous for her departure and while we don't expect this from the new principal I hope they understand the situation they are walking into. the school is running smoothly much due to her leadership and demonstrated willingness to go above and beyond the job description of a principal.
