#EngagedLibraries connect diverse communities. 🏈 During their annual National African American Read-In Celebration, staff at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library hosted a variety of activities for children, teens, and families at a local elementary school. The event even attracted members of the Carolina Panthers football team, including players, cheerleaders, and the team’s mascot, to help “highlight the importance of seeing characters in literacy that represent students of different backgrounds.” This is a great example of how engaging programs and solid partnerships can be an inspiration for all community members. 📲 We want to know how your library celebrate heroes of all backgrounds. Share your story on social media by including #EngagedLibraries and tagging OCLC in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ⤵️ Click below to see photos from Charlotte Mecklenburg's event. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

The opioid crisis has inflicted a devastating toll on the US, and as community anchor institutions, libraries are leveraging their assets in response to this crisis. To aid public library staff in addressing opioid use disorder in their communities, OCLC’s WebJunction developed the “Opioid Crisis Support Kit for Public Libraries.” This resource will help strengthen libraries—and, more broadly, the communities they serve—as the nation continues to struggle with the opioid crisis. The content includes pragmatic strategies, tools, and other resources to help libraries—including those in rural areas—as they determine their specific communities' needs and define the roles and activities their library is most suited to carry out. ⤵️ Click below to read more about the support kit and register for an upcoming webinar to learn more. #EngagedLibraries --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

When we connect with library professionals at conferences and events, we are reminded of our important mission to connect people to libraries. In this #OCLCnext blog, Skip Prichard, President and CEO of OCLC, discusses the impact libraries make in everyday lives and how we help make that possible through technology innovations and learning opportunities. "It ... gives all of us at OCLC a great sense of personal pride to be able to focus on libraries every day of the year," Skip writes. "When the conferences are over and everyone moves on, we still get to spend our days finding new ways to connect people to libraries." ⤵️ Click below to read more. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

We support the continued elevation of libraries through the important information they share in the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Integrated Postsecondary Data System. Libraries use this critical data to compare their budgets, staffing, research, and collections, and to support the need for funding to their university administrations. We encourage NCES' unwavering support in their ongoing efforts to collect and publish this information about academic libraries. ➡️ Click here to submit your comment of support for continuing the system: lnkd.in/e2E2xpdZ --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

#EngagedLibraries support incredible experiences. 🌚🌝 For many, witnessing a total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To support this monumental event, libraries in the United States helped people safely enjoy the phenomenon. At Jesup Public Library in Iowa, it wasn’t just about distributing free glasses to the community. It was also about spreading awareness about the library’s astronomy resources and more. 📲 We want to know how your library builds excitement about big moments and events. Share your story on social media by including #EngagedLibraries and tagging OCLC in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ⤵️ Click below to see Jesup’s eclipse promotion. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove
