Is truly community-driven, sustainable, open governance for OSS actually feasible? One good case study to model is AsyncAPI. I respect the radical transparency from Fran Méndez in this inspiring talk about AsyncAPI Initiative and his personal experiences, from the early days of the project, to realizing Slack was using it, all the way to donating the project to The Linux Foundation. Companies tried to buy it all out, be he remained steadfast. Postman eventually enabled him to work full-time on the project without asking for any IP in exchange — no strings attached. Maintaining open-source standards and projects can be confusing, and many developer contributors feel like they're just working for free. Some other takeaways: - Open source needs to be open governance, says Fran. - Know your value - Always put people first - Open source can save lives (the AsyncAPI community led funding efforts to help remove OSS contributor refugees from troubled areas 🙌 ) #opensource #oss #opengovernance #asyncapi
