The Boron Letters - Look Inside The Book
Chris Hughes
About the author
Bond Halbert, through his father, the late Gary Halbert, got one of the most in-depth marketing educations in history.
His Dad was known as the Greatest Copywriter Who Ever Lived, and had more winners in more areas than anyone else alive.
He passed all his knowledge on to Bond, and you can read about this hidden knowledge of making maximum money in minimum time in his book The Boron Letters.
Around the age of ten his father was down on his luck and they were walking down the street to his favorite coffee shop. Bond told him he was very lucky because, while his oldest brother Jeff got to play with toys and have the fun of being rich, Bond was going to get to see how he became rich.
Fortunately for him, his dad thought that was the coolest thing any little kid ever said.
Gary started teaching Bond everything he knew about his business...he went to seminars like other kids went to baseball games. He took Bond to all kinds of high level meetings and trust me, he was the only kid in the room.
One time he even took Bond out of school to go to a brainstorming session with Jay Abraham and a few other buddies.
The education never stopped either.
Even when he went to Boron, Gary mailed Bond letters with marketing and life lessons. Those letters were eventually put into a now famous book titled The Boron Letters.
Bond, along with his brother Kevin, continue the legacy at TheGaryHalbertLetter.com, giving away a gold-mine of nuggets, tips, tricks and secrets to take you from raw newbie to seasoned advertising veteran in less time than you'd typically spend on a fancy college degree.
And it doesn't stop there!
Bond has had massive success in his own right, selling millions of dollars of info-products, and guiding many businesses to success. His wisdom is sought out by some of the top marketers on the planet...as well as the numerous small businesses he has helped over the years.

I probably read his ads (my last name has no coat of arms that I could find) but I never heard of him to study from till those few short years ago.
I loved studying the psychology of why people do or don’t buy and I’m pretty good at honing in on the emotion in my writing but...I felt like the technical parts eluded me.
I belonged to a copywriting group and his son, Bond, would respond to posts sometimes. I started following Drayton Bird and somehow stumbled on The Gary Halbert group.
I heard about direct response writing. I entered a contest I didn’t win. I figured out there were formulas for writing that I must be missing that I really needed to lead me to achieve the success I want.
Someone asked the other day why read the boron letters and as I just finished it my mind thought why not? (And that’s why I wrote this review) Every page has multiple lessons on writing good copy. Every page. Gary didn’t write things just for fun. If you’re not getting the lessons the issue is you, not him or his writing.
I’m lucky enough to now belong to a group that Bond and Kevin (another one of Gary’s sons) run. They give lessons. Sometimes the lessons are almost exactly what I’ve read in here. That’s ok. Repetition helps.
I don’t think this book is for everyone because everyone won’t get it. They’ll be hung up on typos or grammatical mistakes. Complaining about the font or eye appeal. Good. Don’t buy it. For those who want a deep dive into why people do what they do and how to write to get them to do what You want them to do - this book is for you. Everyone else - move along, nothing to see here.
Through these letters Gary is giving advice to Bond related to general health, well-being and conduct in life, as well as to direct marketing and copywriting. The letters also contain brief descriptions of incidents from prison life. Bond says he left them in this book, so that the reader would have an idea under what kind of conditions Gary wrote these letters.
Gary walks his talk and is trying to teach his son through examples from his own life.
Among those suggestions for well-being is the advice to run for half an hour or for an hour each day, or for that matter to engage in some form of physical exercise, not just for the sake of exercising the body, but because neuro-science has indeed proven that if you move your body, your brain works better, which would then influence your ability to think and come up with better ideas for direct marketing and copywriting.
His next suggestion relates to eating fruits and fasting at least one day a week. Again, the idea is that if you have a healthy body, you'll be able to be more productive in your direct marketing and copywriting attempts.
Gary then shares wonderful insights for direct marketing and copywriting, though in sporadic fashion, as they occur to him and sometimes he's not sure what should he mention next. In other words, they were written for Bond, who was at the time of writing these letters 16 years old and who also mentioned in the book that his father has been taking him to various direct-marketing and copywriting events or seminars since he was 9 years old.
Even though these letters were written in the 80's, many of those insights are timeless, like different tips and tricks on how to attract attention, stimulate interest and desire, and call for action; how to go about getting the leads, to write simple and to read your copy aloud several times until it reads smoothly.
Gary would mention what to do and what not to do - for example that you should first find the hot market, and then the product, rather than the other way around.
And he'd describe the general process of developing and testing direct marketing packages, for example to start with 5,000 letters, and depending on response increase it to 50,000 or more.
Since these letters were written in the 80's, Bond has added his commentary underneath each letter in an attempt to correlate those principles to internet marketing.
I got the book in a kindle format, which may differ from the paperback. The edition of the book I purchased contains typos and grammar errors in the commentary, which makes you feel like eating a super delicious apple and finding a worm inside.
