Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

The whole Proton suite of apps is amazing! It's not always extremely feature rich, and sometimes somewhat slow to load things, but it is of very good quality otherwise. I for one prefer apps that work well with less features than having all bells and whistles but buggy. Especially when it comes to apps that handle critical and sensitive data. One star off for redesigning, removing features, and not adding them back in later. Like ability to view headers, or copy email addresses.

Update 2: so happy to hear the swipe navigation is in the works!! I'll try to send in screenshots of the deletion issue when I get a chance. I don't think I explained it well so here is my previous view rephrased: my main issue is when I search for a sender so I can delete some emails from that specific sender, after I select several and delete them, they dont go away. it still shows them along with the other emails from that sender. (If I wanted to search the trash id open the trash)

Hi! The app schedules a deletion from our servers, so the messages disappear fully after each deletion task is performed. EDIT: We've added your vote to the existing request for supporting swipe-to-navigate in the app. Please provide us with a screenshot of what you see on your end when searching for senders at: https://proton.me/support/contact.

The mobile device app is practically unusable. Only useful for reading emails. There is no option to print an email. You cannot add the details of a new recipient to your contacts list, you can't even cut and paste it. Banners and headers don't always show despite setting this as the default. Sometimes it fails to send emails but gives you no clue as to why. I signed up to Proton Mail because of concerns over privacy. The support team are unhelpful. It would be a hassle to leave but I might.
