FLINT, MI -- In an announcement Jan. 16 on her Twitter page, singer Cher said thousands of bottles of water secured through working with Icelandic Glacial will be heading to the city of Flint.

Cher said in a separate tweet that her SON, a reference to her late, ex-husband Sonny Bono, was born in Michigan, followed by the hashtag #USALOVESFLINT.

The partnership between Cher and Icelandic Glacial came through Brad Horwitz, an investor in the company, who then reached out Jon Olafsson, the company's chairman and co-founder.

"Icelandic Glacial committed to doubling Cher's purchase which is being trucked in to Michigan beginning Monday, January 18th," reads a statement on the company's website. "The water will reach The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (www.fbem.org) beginning Wednesday, January 20th. FBEM will immediately begin the distribution process to those who need it most for drinking, cooking and washing."

The Iceland-based company said the water would go directly to community centers, food banks and fire stations in the city, with empty bottles returned to the food bank and recycled to provide a donation.

"We are humbled and honored to help the people of Flint get through this crisis," said Olafsson. "Together with Cher, we also hope to raise awareness to help get the families of Flint the assistance they need during this difficult time."
