I won't recount any of the events in the book as many other reviewers have already done this. I found the narrative to be very exciting, the people reasonably well drawn, and the dialogue convincing. Similarly the technical knowledge of the author shone through and the events were largely credible, in as much as hard sci fi can be.
What let the book down badly for me was the incredibly poor proof reading; there were missing words, typos, and spelling and grammatical errors - far too many for a book short listed for the Arthur C Clarke award. Hence only 4 stars.
Overall though, this was a very gripping read and I was keen to get back to it whenever I could.
