A Powys man has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting a teenager.

Jonjo Evans, aged 60, and of Penybryn, Llanfyllin, gave no pleas at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, March 26.

He was asked to stand and confirm his name, date of birth and address before the charge was read out to him by the legal advisor.

The serious charge of sexually assaulting a female aged 13 and over by penetration without consent is an indictable-only offence, meaning it can only be tried in a crown court.

The chair of the magistrates' bench Rebecca Klug told Evans that he would be remanded on conditional bail not to contact the alleged victim by any ways of communication including on social media.

Evans' next appearance will be at Mold Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on April 26.
