Default New Region A release of Chungking Express - April 7th

I did multiple searches for a thread on this and couldn't find one.

Mods, please delete, if one already exists.

I've never seen this film, but always heard great things about it.

The Criterion has been OOP for a while now.

Does anyone know anything about this release, aside from the basics?

...the MSRP is pretty steep.

Amazon lists it as an import. Text on the cover art looks Japanese or something. It would undoubtedly be Region-A, but I have my doubts it's a legit American release.

EDIT:
It's on the Blu-Ray.com database as a Japanese release. Unless Amazon's using the Japanese cover art as a placeholder. Otherwise, I can't find any news or info about it.

Default Actually...

...Asia and the United States are both Region A (with regard to blu-ray).

Yes, Region-A includes all of North America and Asia. The question now is, will the disc actually have English subs, at the bare minimum?

Please ignore that ridiculously dumb question.

I was looking at the dvd region specifications when I asked it.

I'm so stupid.

...I hate myself.

No worries, it's an honest mistake, especially in the context of the dark and confusing DVD era.

Do import releases usually bother including an English title on the cover if there's no english subtitle option?

...I don't know about these things.

They might, it all depends. The Korean imports I have (OldBoy, A Bittersweet Life) are pretty English-friendly and have English titles on their cover. But others (like my Hong Kong copy of Secretly, Greatly) do not.

Honestly, ordering this copy seems a crapshoot to me. Looks to me like either a supplier will sell Japanese copies on Amazon on April 7th, or else Kadokawa is re-releasing it on the 7th (but I don't know how to verify either case). If it is the same Japanese release, I don't see any guarantee it'll have English subs.

On the other hand, I'm mostly going by the cover art. If it is just a placeholder image and the import is coming from somewhere else, then it could be a totally different copy that hasn't been announced or uploaded to the site yet. May have to wait and see if any news pops up about this release. It's becoming quite a mystery.
