FLINT ( WJRT)- (3/21/16)- A train rolled into Flint, carrying thousands of bottles of water donated to residents of Flint.

Amtrak employees initiated the effort, providing bottled water to residents impacted by the water emergency.

Employees at stations and Amtrak facilities took part in the Amtrak Cares Initiative.

The train made several stops, picking up pallets of water along the way in New York, Newark, Philly and Chicago, among several stations and states.

All together, Amtrak collected 20 pallets of water, which adds up to about 30,000 bottles of water.

Amtrak says Flint is not just another stop for them on their route.
They care about the people here and are glad to give back.

"This is what we do. You know, Amtrak is a network of communities and if what we do on a regular basis running trains like this, if every once and a while we can go an extra mile for a community or region that needs that help. You know, a shoulder to lean on, we love doing that. So it's huge for us. It's huge for me personally and it's huge for my 20,000 colleagues at Amtrak," C.D. Monte Verde, Senior Specialist Government Affairs & Corporate Communications said.

Mayor Karen Weaver said it's great to have so many people and organizations, like Amtrak, supporting the city of Flint. "The donations keep coming and we are very thankful," said Mayor Weaver. "While we look forward to the day that we can feel comfortable using the water coming from our taps, we're just not there yet. So we appreciate those who continue to donate bottled water and filters. We appreciate the generosity and support." 

The water will head to a warehouse before being distributed throughout the community.
